Farm Flavor is published by Journal Communications Inc., a custom media publisher based in Franklin, Tennessee. Our co-founder, Alex Haley, is credited with our company motto, “Find the good … and praise it.” With this website, we’re finding the good … and eating it.

Much of our myriad collection of recipes and food content has been featured in our publications Tennessee Home & Farm, Illinois Partners and My Indiana Home. Farm Flavor invites readers of these magazines and websites, as well as a brand-new audience, to grow your food knowledge along with your recipe collection.

We use a veteran team of expert recipe developers to create our recipes, which are tested multiple times before being published.

About Our Recipe Developers
Kristen Winston, a Nashville-based caterer, has been developing recipes for us since 2003. She’s one of the premier foodservice providers in Middle Tennessee, catering prominent area events such as the opening of Nordstrom and the Symphony Ball. Her culinary creations over the years run the gamut from simple soups (Creamy Tomato Basil Soup) to elaborate entrees (Herb-Rubbed Pork Tenderloin).

Kim Galeaz of Indianapolis is a registered dietitian, writer and culinary nutrition consultant to the food, beverage and agriculture industry. She’s passionate about blending good taste with good health in every culinary creation – even dessert – which can be seen in her recipes, such as BBQ Chicken Apple Pizza and Almond Shortbread Thumbprint Cookies, as well as helpful articles, such as How to Pick Out a Watermelon. She also has a blog, The Dietitian Does Dessert … Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, Too.

Charlyn Fargo of Jacksonville, Illinois, got her start in food in 4-H. Her love for the culinary arts eventually helped her land a job as food editor of the State Register-Journal, a daily paper in Springfield, and eventually a master’s degree in nutrition. Now a registered dietitian, she teaches nutrition and baking at Lincoln Land Community College and consults as a dietitian, including a syndicated column, Nutrition News. Her recipes often tie back to the agriculture of her home state, such as Pumpkin Pancakes (using pumpkins from Morton, Illinois) and Sunburst Coffee Cake (made with Hodgson Mill flour from Effingham, Illinois).

Mary Carter hails from Flint, Michigan, but she’s lived in Nashville for about 30 years. She has worked as a food stylist for years, with projects involving celebrities such as Loretta Lynn and Nicole Kidman. Mary began working as a food stylist for My Indiana Home and Illinois Partners in 2010 and began developing recipes for Tennessee Home & Farm in 2011, creating ingredient-themed dishes such as Overnight French Toast Casserole and Lamb Chops With Berry Mint Sauce.

Here at Farm Flavor, our goal is not only to give you the opportunity to browse our recipes, but also to connect the food back to the farm. You’ll find cooking and gardening tips, grocery and farmers market guides, farm facts and food trivia, in addition to visits to farms across the country to meet the farmers who feed their neighbors – and the nation.
