To most, July means fireworks and the celebration of our freedom, but why stop celebrating after the Fourth? July is also a month of some great food holidays for you and your family to enjoy:

  • National Baked Bean Month
  • National Blueberry Month
  • National Grilling Month
  • National Hot Dog Month
  • National Ice Cream Month

Food holidays are a great excuse to take a normal dinner and make it fun and exciting. To celebrate National Grilling Month, plan a “grill-off” themed party and invite some friends over for a fun competition! Best burger? Best steak? Best baked beans even? Celebrating food holidays is as easy as enjoying some homemade (peach) ice cream on a hot day or cooking a hot dog over a bonfire.

There are even holidays that celebrate certain foods on specific days and many in July involve those wonderful, farm fresh blueberries. On July 10, find a U-Pick blueberry farm for Pick Blueberries Day. After you’ve done your own picking, you can enjoy a homemade muffin on July 11 for National Blueberry Muffin Day. Why not continue in the kitchen with some Blueberry Buckle Coffecake or Blueberry Ice Cream? After all, it is National Blueberry Month!

Whichever way you choose, celebrating food holidays is an easy way to keep things exciting in the kitchen (or on the grill) from time to time.
