Double Apple Blondie Bars

This sweet blondie bar features both fresh apples and applesauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 ⅓ cups whole-wheat flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup applesauce
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 cup unpeeled apples, chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease and flour a 9-by-9-inch baking dish.
  2. Whisk together egg, applesauce, sugar, oil, salt and vanilla. Stir in flour until smooth.
  3. Add walnuts and apples. Combine well and spoon into baking dish.
  4. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool and cut with a sharp knife.

Tips & Notes

If you’re making these bars ahead of time, store them in the refrigerator in an air-tight container.
