Agriculture is South Dakota’s leading industry. The state ranks in the top 10 states in the production of several agricultural commodities, with over 28,000 farms averaging more than 1,495 acres in size producing a variety of products.

Notable agricultural commodities in the Mount Rushmore State include wheat, soybeans, sunflowers, beef, pork, oats, barley, rye, flaxseed, sorghum and alfalfa.
