Florida Farmers Care For the Environment

Florida farmers and ranchers are at the forefront of developing and adopting environmentally innovative farming practices, and the state’s Agricultural-Environmental Leadership Award recognizes a group each year who go above and beyond. The award has been presented annually since 1994.
The 2014 recipients include Bryan Jones, owner of Riverdale Potato Farms in Elkton, who has developed innovative irrigation methods. The second recipient is Randy Strode, owner and operator of Agri-Starts, Inc. in Apopka, who has installed a system that collects rainwater. The final recipients, Sutton and Kris Rucks, are owners of Milking R Dairy in Okeechobee. Their facility allows for the capture, storage, reuse and treatment of 100 percent of the wastewater produced on the farm.
