Chicken in the Waffle: “Homemade-style waffle shell, crispy chicken tenders, sausage gravy”. I’d say this is still my No. 1 #mnstatefairfood since it debuted a couple years ago! Slightly sweet waffle cone + crispy chicken with a little kick + rich and creamy country gravy = 🥇 There’s a surprise at the bottom!… Not something you always wanna hear but it good. 🙃 📍 @bluebarnmn at West End Market, south of the History & Heritage Center ••• #friedchicken #stfair19 #friedfood #minnesotastatefair #onastick #mnstatefair #mnstatefair2019 #statefairfood #yelpeats #yelpmsp #stribfairfood #buzzfeast #onlyinmn #fairfanatics #yelpeats #exploreminnesota #waffle #soulfood

1. Chicken in the Waffle

You’ve probably heard of chicken and waffles, but have you ever tried chicken in the waffle? The waffle cone, that is. The Minnesota State Fair takes the original dish one step further by serving fried chicken in a slightly sweet waffle cone and topping the whole thing with rich country gravy.

2. Cotton Candy Taco

Why stick to traditional cotton candy at the fair when you could try a cotton candy taco? Winner of the “Most Creative” food award at the State Fair of Texas in 2018, the Cotton Candy Taco features a waffle cone “taco shell” filled with cotton candy and chocolate and topped with a sweet marshmallow glaze.

3. Fried Butter

You can enjoy a deep-fried version of just about everything at the fair – including butter. That’s right, at the LA County Fair, butter is more than a condiment. It’s a main attraction. Vendors create these indulgent, deep-fried butter balls by coating frozen pieces of butter in a batter, frying them, and finishing them off with powdered sugar and maple syrup.

5. Fried Snickers

There’s no better place to indulge than the fair. In fact, it might be the only place it’s possible to taste your favorite candy bar fried. If you’re a fan of Snickers bars, you won’t want to miss out on the fried Snickers on a stick served with chocolate syrup and powdered sugar at the Oregon State Fair.

6. Krispy Kreme Donut Burger

Sweet and savory flavors come together in this Kansas State Fair hamburger. Made with a hamburger patty served between two glazed Krispy Kreme donut “buns,” this burger is enough to satisfy your breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert cravings (and calories) all at once.

7. Bacon Mac N’ Cheese Empanadas

You’ll find this fun fair twist on a classic comfort food at the Tulsa State Fair. The Bacon Mac N’ Cheese Empanada is the perfect way to eat mac and cheese with your hands. Prepared with bacon and stuffed inside empanada dough, it’s the perfect on-the-go snack to satisfy your appetite between attractions.

8. Deep-Fried Dilly Dog

Forget boring hot dogs at the Minnesota State Fair and opt for the Deep-Fried Dilly Dog instead. This bratwurst on a stick features a layer of dill pickle between the meat and the deep-fried batter. Slather some mustard on top and you’ve got the perfect hot dog for pickle lovers.

9. Deep-Fried Oreos

What could be better than an Oreo cookie? A deep-fried Oreo cookie, of course. You’ll find this fun dessert at many state fairs around the country, including the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.

10. Fried Jelly Beans

The wackiest fair food on our list might just be the deep-fried jelly bean balls available at New England’s Great State Fair. The sweet, gooey snack features jelly beans rolled inside funnel cake batter, fried until crisp and golden brown, and topped with a dusting of powdered sugar.
