Beef bourguignon

Julia Child was born Aug. 15, 1912. This culinary icon inspired home cooks to move out of their familiar repertoire and try their hand at mastering the art of French cooking – stuffed tomatoes provencal, coq au vin and beef bourguignon (pictured above).

Whether you grew up watching her on PBS, remember the infamous parody on “Saturday Night Live” or learned about her through the books My Life in France and Julie & Julia – or, like me, all of the above – chances are that you appreciate all she’s done for French recipes and American cooks.

But I have to hand it to PBS. Their recent “remixed” videos of Mister Rogers and Bob Ross have gone viral, but this new one featuring clips from Julia mashed up with Guns ‘N Roses “Sweet Child O’ Mine” just takes the cake. Check it out below, and let us know your favorite Julia Child recipes in the comments.

Happy birthday, Julia! You’re an inspiration to us all.
