Snickers Bar
When the Snickers bar was first introduced in 1930 by Frank Mars, it was sold for a mere 5 cents. While this decadent treat is most definitely a chocolate bar, it was actually inspired by a confection made from nougat, peanut and caramel rather than a traditional bar. And speaking of peanuts, you may be surprised to learn that it takes more than 100 tons of peanuts to produce the 15 million Snickers bar being made every single day.
Although this tasty chocolate and caramel bar began on a family farm in Tennessee (and was even named after the family’s favorite horse), it has since become one of the best-selling candy bars around the world. And while everyone in the United States will definitely recognize the name of this fan-favorite, you may also hear it referred to as a Marathon bar if you find yourself looking for this tasty treat in the United Kingdom. The Snickers bar was initially marketed under the Marathon name in the UK, and even though it’s been rebranded for consistency worldwide, many Europeans still call it by its original name.
