Most of Mississippi’s fertile land is silt that is deposited by flood waters of the Mississippi River. Cotton – one of the state’s top agriculture products – is grown across northwest Mississippi. Broiler chickens, soybeans and corn are among the state’s top agriculture commodities grown on the more than 42,000 farms across the state.
