There's no telling what transformed it into a household name – maybe it was “Get Your Kicks on Route 66,” or perhaps it was John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath. Regardless, Route 66 is an iconic landmark. Established in 1926, it was the country’s first all-weather highway, connecting Chicago to Los Angeles.

The highway spans more than 2,500 miles across the United States, 400 of those miles residing in Oklahoma. If you plan to hit the road for a cross-country trip or want to peruse various agritourism experiences, markets and products available along the Sooner State’s stretch of the road, be sure to add the following to your bucket list.

A landmark and tourist attraction along Route 66, the Arcadia Round Barn was built by a farmer named William Harrison Odor in 1989. He softened young bur oak boards in water before forcing them into curves to outfit the walls and roof rafters of this beautiful barn. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the only round barn along Route 66, this attraction is home to a museum, gift shop and live music performances on the weekends.
